A unique group of luxury homes dating back to the 15th century.

There are places that have a very special charm, a mixture of evocative atmospheres and memories of times past. The original residential complex at Vicarello di Volterra is one of these places. First established in the late Middle Ages, the property includes an ancient chapel mentioned in a public notary document dated 1298. Until 1422 the property belonged to the wealthy family of Guelfuccio dei Mannucci, who bequeathed it to the Olivetan monastery of Sant’Andrea in Volterra, which used it as a farm.

Grand Duke Peter Leopold dissolved the monastery in 1784; the entire property was then purchased by a noble family of Volterra, the Incontris, who converted it into the manor house known as Fattoria di Vicarello (Vicarello Farm) and added various buildings to the property: stables, wheat stores, an oil mill and lemon houses.

The farm was the residence of Paolo Cosimo Incontri, the brother of Giuseppe Gaetano Incontri, Bishop of Volterra from 1806 to 1848. The interior decoration of the villa was executed in the second half of the 19th century by the brothers Lodovico and Francesco Gamberucci; the two artists were held in high regard by the aristocratic families of Volterra.

Today, Vicarello di Volterra displays an authentic, rigorous respect for the past while providing the highest standards of modern comforts. The buildings were sensitively restored to their historical splendour, preserving a yesteryear atmosphere in the rooms and the communal areas, while enhancing the complex's environmental and cultural heritage.

Becoming the owner of a portion of this rare example of exclusive real estate means investing in a property that will rise in value over time.
